Glossary

Short definitions for words used on the catalog and in the research library. For research use only. Not for human or animal use.

Peptide
A peptide is a chain of amino acids linked by amide bonds. In this catalog the word means a defined research solid, not a finished drug, food, or cosmetic.
Amino acid sequence
The sequence is the order of residues, written in three-letter or one-letter code. A C-terminal amide is written -NH2. D-amino acids, norleucine, and other non-standard residues are part of the sequence and should match the certificate of analysis.
Lyophilized
Lyophilized means the material was freeze-dried to a solid. Most vials in this catalog are lyophilized powder in a sealed vial. The format for a lot is the label and the certificate, not a handling recipe.
Molecular weight
Molecular weight here is the mass of the free molecule in daltons, taken from the cited paper or a standard structural record. A salt, a counter-ion, or a copper ligand changes the mass of the solid. The certificate of analysis is the mass for the lot you receive.
Certificate of Analysis
A certificate of analysis is the lot record of identity and purity. It may name the method, the mass, and the purity figure for that lot. Certificates are available on request. Published files, when issued, are in the COA Library.
HPLC
High-performance liquid chromatography is an analytical method laboratories use to separate and quantify a sample. If a certificate reports HPLC, that method applies to the lot on the certificate. This site does not invent a method for a lot that has no certificate yet.
Mass spectrometry
Mass spectrometry measures the mass of ions from a sample. It is one way a laboratory confirms that a lot matches an expected sequence. The certificate states whether that method was used.
Purity
Purity on a certificate is the figure the testing laboratory reported for that lot, by the method they name. A catalog page does not substitute a typical purity or a target purity for a missing certificate.
Salt form
Many research solids are acetate, hydrochloride, sodium, or other salts of the parent molecule. The salt changes the mass and is not itself a purity percentage. Read the salt from the certificate.
Lot
A lot (or batch) is one production run. Identity and purity are lot-specific. Quote the lot number when you request a certificate.
In vitro
In vitro means the experiment is outside a living animal, typically in cells, membranes, or a biochemical assay. Catalog materials are sold for in-vitro and laboratory research by qualified personnel.
Research use only
Research use only means the material is not sold for human or animal use, and not as a drug, food, cosmetic, or dietary supplement. The full purchase language is on every product page and in the footer.
PubMed
PubMed is the U.S. National Library of Medicine index of biomedical papers. Citation lists on this site link to PubMed or a DOI. A paper title is the publisher’s wording. It is not a claim by One Source Peptides.
DOI
A digital object identifier is a stable link to a paper or other object. When PubMed provides a DOI for a citation, the updates page shows it next to the PubMed link.
